Introduction
This sparkling wine originates from France, specifically the Champagne region and the Côte des Bar in the southernmost Aube department. The Moutard family, whose roots in Burgundy can be traced back to 1642, established their Champagne house in 1952 in the village of Buxeuil. The house philosophy is to produce wines that express the unique characteristics of their terroir, emphasizing sustainable viticulture and traditional Champagne methods.
Wine Description
The Moutard Brut Grande Reserve is a non vintage Champagne, primarily a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It is made from grapes sourced from a variety of plots, with a significant amount of reserve wine (up to 30%) incorporated to ensure a consistent house style. The wine spends a minimum of three years on its lees, developing complexity and fine effervescence.
-
The colour is often a delicate pale gold with a steady stream of fine bubbles.
-
Aromas include notes of white flowers, honey, citrus, pear, and toasted bread or brioche from the extended ageing.
-
The palate is described as rich, creamy, and well structured, displaying notes of toasted nuts, baked apple, citrus, and minerality.
-
The finish is persistent, clean, and refreshing, demonstrating excellent balance and elegance.
-
The style is dry (Brut) and complex, showcasing the freshness and depth that comes from its time on the lees.
-
The optimal drinking window is immediate, though it can age for an additional 2–5 years in a cool cellar.
