Montes Alpha Syrah originates from Chile, specifically from the Apalta and Marchigüe zones of the Colchagua Valley within the larger Rapel Valley region. Founded in 1988 by Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, Viña Montes was a pioneer in Chilean viticulture, famously introducing the Syrah variety to the country in 1993. The winery's philosophy emphasizes high quality through precision viticulture, such as the Water Saving Winegrowing system which reduces irrigation by 65% while concentrating fruit quality.
Wine Description
This red wine presents a deep ruby-red to violet colour in the glass. The sensory profile is intense and expressive, featuring a nose of ripe blackberries, figs, and crème de cassis, layered with notes of leather, dark chocolate, and subtle hints of graphite or black pepper. On the full-bodied palate, it is well-balanced and smooth, delivering flavours of dark cherries and plums complemented by sweet oak-driven aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, and dulce de leche. The finish is long, complex, and elegant, characterized by silky, fine-grained tannins.
