Michter's US1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash is a limited-release American whiskey that builds upon the distillery's acclaimed US1 Sour Mash Whiskey. This expression undergoes a unique finishing process, enhancing its flavor profile and complexity.
Production Process
The journey begins with Michter's US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey, which is fully matured in charred new American white oak barrels. After this initial aging, the whiskey is transferred to a second custom-made barrel crafted from 18-month air-dried wood. This secondary barrel is toasted but not charred, a process that imparts additional nuanced flavors to the whiskey.
Tasting Notes
-
Nose: Aromas of toffee and buttery vanilla emerge prominently, accompanied by fragrant honey, milk chocolate, and a subtle hint of orange peel.
-
Palate: The entry is smooth, presenting flavors of caramel and sweet vanilla. Mid-palate, toasty campfire notes intensify, complementing undertones of cherry and spice, leading to an elegant and balanced finish.
Serving Suggestions
To fully appreciate its intricate flavors, it's recommended to enjoy Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash neat or with a few drops of water. This approach allows the whiskey's complexity to unfold, offering a rich and rewarding tasting experience.
