Merryvale Vineyards holds a significant place in history as the first winery built in Napa Valley following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. Since 1996, the estate has been solely owned by the Schlatter family, who combine European sensibilities with a focus on small-volume, high-quality production. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes precision and the use of cool-climate fruit to create wines with exceptional texture, acidity, and aging potential.
Wine Description
The Merryvale Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir presents a polished and expressive profile with a medium body. This wine reveals complex aromas of raspberry, blood orange, and red cherry, complemented by intriguing notes of smoked paprika, cedar spice, and a hint of incense. On the palate, the wine is silky and seamless, offering concentrated flavours of pomegranate and cranberry balanced by bright acidity and earthier undertones of forest herbs. It is characterized by fine-grained, velvety tannins that lead into a graceful and persistent finish featuring notes of espresso bean and cocoa nibs. This wine is typically aged for 10 months in French oak, with approximately 40% being new barrels, and carries an ABV of 13.5%. While the estate vineyards are farmed sustainably and are certified Napa Green, this wine is not certified organic.
