McCormick Onion Gravy Mix delivers a smooth, savory onion gravy in about five minutes—just stir the packet into a cup of water and simmer.
This boxed pack contains twelve 0.87-ounce packets of McCormick Onion Gravy Seasoning Mix, formulated to produce lump-free, rich onion gravy for everyday meals and holiday plates. Made with McCormick spices and no added MSG*, the mix is shelf-stable and designed to simplify finishing roasts, mashed potatoes, meatloaf, shepherd’s pie, and more. It’s convenient for busy weeknights, potlucks, or stocking a pantry for guests.
How quickly can I prepare McCormick Onion Gravy Mix?
Preparation is intentionally fast to give you homemade-style gravy without the fuss. Combine one packet with 1 cup (about 240 ml) of water in a saucepan, bring to a low boil, and simmer for roughly one minute while stirring until smooth and thickened.
- Ready in about 5 minutes from start to finish.
- Stir continually during simmering to prevent lumps.
- Adjust water for thicker or thinner gravy consistency.
What meals and recipes does this onion gravy work best with?
The flavor profile pairs naturally with roasted, baked, and mashed dishes where a savory onion sauce brings added moisture and depth. It’s designed to complement beef roasts, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, casseroles like shepherd’s pie, and can even be transformed into a dip.
- Pour over roast beef, pork, or turkey for quick serving.
- Use with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered egg noodles.
- Mix into casseroles or use as a base for meatloaf topping.
Does this product contain additives or require refrigeration?
The seasoning mix is shelf-stable and should be stored at normal room temperature until opened. The formulation lists no added MSG* and uses McCormick spice blends; keep the unopened packets in a cool, dry pantry away from direct heat.
- Packaged as 0.87 oz plastic packets—convenient single-use portions.
- Store at ambient temperature; no refrigeration needed for unopened packets.
- Use opened or prepared gravy promptly and refrigerate leftovers.
Can I customize the flavor or quantity when cooking?
Yes—this mix is flexible for scaling and flavor tweaks. For a bolder onion taste, add sautéed onions or a splash of Worcestershire; for a silkier texture, stir in a pat of butter or a little cream at the end. To increase yield, combine multiple packets with corresponding water amounts and simmer until combined.
- Add fresh sautéed onions, garlic, or herbs for depth.
- Stir in cream, sour cream, or butter for richness.
- Combine packets for larger batches for gatherings.
