Matusalem Gran Reserva 23 Rum is a dark rum from the Dominican Republic, presented at 40% ABV and 80 proof. Matusalem uses a Solera blending process that brings together younger and older rums matured in oak. This listing is for one 750 mL bottle.
The distributor describes an aromatic profile of cinnamon, nutmeg, milk chocolate, caramel, espresso, biscuit and vanilla. On the palate, the rum is medium to full bodied, dry and spicy, with nutty caramel, cigar leaf and coffee leading into a creamy finish of vanilla, chocolate, butterscotch, cinnamon and black pepper. The layered profile balances sweet richness with warming spice.
Serve neat or over a large cube to explore the rum slowly. A small splash of water can open the caramel, coffee and spice notes, while an Old Fashioned-style preparation keeps the mature character at the center. Pair it with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, coffee desserts or a mild cigar, and store the bottle upright in a cool, dark place.
