Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin is a bold, unapologetic expression bottled at the legendary 57% ABV that defines the navy strength category. Named for vigilance and precision, this gin delivers full-proof intensity without compromise, honoring the maritime tradition where navy officers demanded spirits strong enough to ignite gunpowder—a proof that became the gold standard for gin excellence. Crafted with meticulous botanical selection and distilled with purpose, Vigilant proves that navy strength gin transcends historical curiosity to become the ultimate expression of gin's aromatic and flavor potential.
The nose is commanding and complex, with juniper asserting itself with impressive presence, complemented by warming spice, cardamom, and subtle citrus notes that sing at full proof. The higher alcohol immediately amplifies botanical character—each ingredient announces itself with clarity and intensity. Notes of coriander, angelica, and cinnamon are woven throughout, with hints of citrus peel, dried herb, and subtle floral character adding layers of sophistication. The aromatic profile is remarkably open and inviting despite the elevated proof, revealing new notes with each return to the glass. The palate is powerful and full-bodied, with the 57% ABV delivering impressive presence that showcases every botanical's distinct character and contribution. Juniper provides a solid, commanding backbone while supporting botanicals create remarkable complexity—warming spices, subtle fruit, herbal warmth, and citrus brightness all flourish without competing. The higher proof prevents any muddiness; instead, each flavor element achieves crystalline clarity. There's a pleasant warming intensity that builds gradually, with the alcohol integration creating a unified whole rather than raw spirit. The finish is impressively long and warming, with persistent juniper, spice, and botanical warmth that slowly evolves—a powerful, contemplative conclusion that showcases the spirit's remarkable depth and quality.
Magnus Vigilant Navy Strength Gin is for the gin purist and enthusiast who refuses to accept anything less than uncompromised excellence. Whether enjoyed neat to fully appreciate its botanical intensity, with minimal ice to slightly dilute and open up additional dimensions, or as the commanding foundation of spirit-forward cocktails, this full-proof expression delivers authenticity and character that only navy strength can provide. A truly distinguished gin for those who understand that strength and sophistication are not mutually exclusive.
