Lágrimas del Valle means tears of the valley. Each bottling comes from one single field, or rancho, and one harvest. This plata comes from the La Loma ranch in Villamar, Michoacán. The agave grows at 1,540 meters and reaches about 38% sugar.
The tequila is made with the Rosales family at Tequila Cascahuin in El Arenal, Jalisco. Master distiller Salvador "Chava" Rosales Trejo is the third generation there. The agave is steam-cooked in masonry ovens. About 70% is crushed by roller mill and 30% by a stone tahona. It ferments in steel and open-air wooden tanks, then is distilled twice.
It is bottled at 46% ABV with no additives. Pour a glass and you'll find citrus peel, ripe melon, roasted pine nuts and clover. The sip is rich with agave and bright citrus. A subtle mineral note and some white pepper keep it lively. The finish is long, with sweet agave, pepper and citrus.
This La Loma plata earned Double Gold at the 2025 Agavos Awards. It's a great pick if you enjoy tasting how place changes agave. Try it next to another ranch's bottling and compare.
Sip it neat at room temperature, or slightly chilled. It also makes a bright, clean margarita. Pair it with ceviche, grilled seafood, citrus salads or goat cheese.
