Some whiskeys refuse to be tamed. KO Distilling's Signature Series 10-Year HAZMAT Bourbon pushes the absolute limits of maturation, arriving at an astounding 142.4 proof that commands immediate respect from serious collectors. This Virginia-born powerhouse spends a full decade resting in deeply charred American white oak. Evaporation takes a heavy toll over those brutal mid-Atlantic summers. The angel's share leaves behind a monolithic spirit. You rarely encounter a high-rye mashbill surviving this long at such extreme concentrations without completely losing its structural integrity. It’s fiercely unapologetic! Underneath that combustible proof lies an intricate web of burnt sugar and seasoned wood.
Virginia weather brutally alters barrel dynamics. Crafted from a robust ratio of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, this uncut liquid captures the raw, unfiltered essence of Manassas distilling. The sheer gravity of a HAZMAT classification usually overwhelms the palate with blinding ethanol burn. KO Distilling miraculously sidesteps that trap. Instead of mere heat, they bottled a visceral collision of dark fruit and antique leather that aggressively coats the tongue before melting into a resonant, oak-driven finish. It stands as a profound testament to masterful cask management.
