Juan Valdez Sierra Nevada Whole Bean Coffee is a 16 oz bag of 100% Colombian whole beans harvested in the Sierra Nevada mountains, offering a full-bodied cup with dark chocolate, caramel, and roasted-nut notes.
Grown by indigenous communities in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada coastal range, these whole beans showcase the region’s altitude-driven flavor profile and careful hand-selection. The beans arrive whole so you can grind to your preferred coarseness for French press, pour-over, moka pot, or espresso, preserving aroma until brewing. Sustainability and ethical sourcing are central to the product’s identity, reflecting Juan Valdez’s long-standing relationship with Colombian coffee growers.
What flavor can I expect from Sierra Nevada beans?
This roast emphasizes a bold, full-bodied cup with clear notes of dark chocolate, caramel sweetness, and a background of roasted nuts. The mountain-grown conditions bring balanced acidity and a lasting finish that stands up well to milk-based drinks and black brews alike.
- Primary tasting notes: dark chocolate and caramel
- Secondary profile: roasted nuts and rounded body
- Acidity: moderate and bright from high-altitude growing
- Finish: clean, lingering flavor suitable for espresso or drip
How should I grind and brew these whole beans for the best result?
Because the beans are sold whole, you control the grind size to match your brewing method. Coarse grinds work well for French press, medium for drip or pour-over, and fine for espresso or moka pots—fresh grinding unlocks the fullest aroma and flavor.
- French press: coarse grind, 4–5 minute steep
- Pour-over/drip: medium grind, even extraction
- Moka pot/espresso: fine grind, shorter extraction time
- Storage tip: keep in a cool, dark place in an airtight container after opening
What sustainability and sourcing practices support this coffee?
Juan Valdez partners with Colombian coffee-growing families and indigenous communities to promote responsible farming and biodiversity protection. Beans are handpicked and sorted to ensure quality while supporting livelihoods and long-term environmental stewardship.
- Handpicked selection preserves bean integrity and consistency
- Programs support local growers and indigenous stewardship
- Practices prioritize biodiversity and ethical sourcing
- Brand traceability ties beans to Colombian growing regions
How do these beans perform in milk-based drinks?
The full-bodied nature and chocolate-caramel notes pair especially well with milk, creating creamy cappuccinos and lattes with pronounced sweetness and a nutty undertone. The roast keeps its character through added dairy, so the flavor profile remains distinct.
- Cappuccino/latte: retains chocolate-caramel balance
- Flat white: smooth mouthfeel and rounded finish
- Brew strength: moderate to strong for milk-based balance
- Tip: slightly finer grind and a touch more coffee for robust milk drinks
