Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca and his team at Joya de Nicaragua have struck gold again with the ferociously rich and delicious Antano Dark Corojo. A full-bodied powerhouse of a smoke, the Antano Dark Corojo El Martillo is a true connoisseur’s delight.
The thick and oily 5 ½” x 54 El Martillo is an expertly crafted Puro from Nicaragua that is jam packed with luscious tobaccos. Nicaraguan filler tobaccos that are aged at least three years are nestled into a meaty Nicaraguan binder leaf and draped with the beautifully dark Nicaraguan Corojo Oscuro wrapper leaf. The result is a chunky hour or so smoke that is an astonishingly satisfying smoke.
Wood and coffee notes support the starring pepper flavors that rap your palate in a luxuriously textured smoke. Some hazelnut nuances flitter along while a deep coffee essence adds to the ever-developing complexity. Big and robust coming down the stretch, the El Martillo maintain composure so that you might focus on the sweet and spicy finish.
The Antano Dark Corojo is not for the light-minded enthusiast and is definitely best suited as an after dinner smoke, but for the adventurous the El Martillo will prove an amazingly scrumptious choice that will muscle its way into the everyday rotation.
