The Armagh is the flagship "Icon" wine of Jim Barry Wines, first released in 1985 and named after the Irish settlers who arrived in the region in 1849. The winery's philosophy is defined by its focus on single-vineyard expression; the wine is sourced from a historic 8-acre block planted in 1968 on its own roots. These low-yielding, old vines produce fruit of extraordinary concentration, earning the wine a "Langton’s Exceptional" classification—the highest tier for Australian investment-grade wines.

The Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2014 presents an opaque, deep purple-black colour. The sensory profile is incredibly intense and brooding, featuring a complex nose of blackberry, mulberry, and dark chocolate, layered with sophisticated notes of clove, sage, anise, and charcuterie. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and profound, showcasing a massive structural core of granitic, fine-grained tannins and a surprising mineral freshness. It is characterized by its "monolithic" yet balanced power, leading to an exceptionally long finish with hints of graphite, espresso, and savory spice. This 100% Shiraz has an ABV of 14% and was aged for 16 months in 100% French oak (approx. 60-70% new) to support its dense fruit profile.
Vintage Quality
The 2014 vintage in the Clare Valley was characterized by a cool spring followed by a warm summer and a timely "cooling" rain in February. These conditions allowed for a slow, steady ripening process that preserved vibrant natural acidity while developing the deep, dark fruit flavours for which the Armagh vineyard is known.
