India Tree Demerara Sugar is a 16-ounce bag of large-grained, lightly molassed cane sugar from Mauritius, prized for its subtle caramel flavor and baking-friendly texture.
Harvested and minimally processed to preserve natural cane character, this demerara delivers a paler, milder brown-sugar profile compared with heavier molasses varieties. Packaged by India Tree in a one-pound bag, it’s kosher, Non-GMO, and formulated specifically to perform well in baked goods, glazes, and as a finishing sprinkle.
Why choose demerara sugar from Mauritius?
The distinctive taste comes from the island’s volcanic soils and a processing method that leaves more of the cane’s original flavor intact. That produces gentle caramel notes without the strong molasses bite of darker brown sugars. It’s especially well suited for recipes where a crunchy, caramelized surface and subtle sweetness are desired.
- Imported from Mauritius for authentic cane character
- Large crystals add crunch and visual appeal
- Lighter color and milder taste than darker brown sugars
How does this demerara perform in baking and cooking?
India Tree’s demerara was formulated with baking in mind, offering reliable texture and browning. Its coarse grains caramelize nicely under heat, giving cookies, crumbles, and glazes a crisp crust and toasted flavor. Because it retains cane nuance, it enhances simple recipes without overpowering other ingredients.
- Caramelizes to form a crunchy topping on baked goods
- Works well in glazes for hams and roasted fruit
- Sprinkle on cereals, yogurt, or cookies for texture
What are the product’s certifications and packaging details?
This demerara sugar comes in a one-pound (16 oz) resealable-style bag ideal for home use. India Tree ensures the product is kosher and Non-GMO, and the packaging keeps the large crystals intact and ready for measuring. The bag format is convenient for pantry storage and frequent use.
- One 16-ounce bag, pantry-friendly size
- Kosher and Non-GMO certified
- Packaging preserves crystal texture and flavor
How can I use demerara sugar to elevate everyday dishes?
Its mild caramel notes and crunchy grains make demerara an easy way to upgrade breakfasts and desserts. Use it as a finishing sugar on muffins and crème brûlée, stir into coffee for a nuanced sweetness, or toss with fruit before roasting. The sugar’s size and flavor add both taste and visual interest.
- Sprinkle over oatmeal, yogurt, or fresh fruit
- Stir into coffee or tea for subtle caramel flavor
