Man In A Grey Suit is a red blend from Hollow Wines sourced from organic, dry-farmed vineyards in San Benito County on California's Central Coast. The 2020 is built on a base of Pommard clone Pinot Noir with additions of Trousseau and Ruché, two Italian and Jura-origin varieties that bring spice and floral character to the blend.
Winemaking is fully hands-off: native yeast fermentation, never racked, unfined, and unfiltered. Only 50ppm of sulfites were added at bottling. Despite coming in at nearly 16% ABV, the wine drinks lighter than that figure suggests, with fresh red fruit and purple florals leading rather than heat or weight.
The name is a nod to the wine's deceptive character. It looks and feels like a medium-weight, chill-able red, but carries serious alcohol underneath. Serve chilled to bring out the fruit and keep the structure in check.
