Introduction
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 12 is a limited-edition blended straight rye whiskey produced by High West Distillery in Park City, Utah. Founded in 2006 by David Perkins and his wife Jane, High West was the first legal distillery to open in Utah since 1870. The distillery, now owned by Constellation Brands, operates a historic saloon in Park City as the world's first ski-in gastro-distillery and a larger production facility in Wanship. Act 12 represents the 12th annual iteration of this seasonal release, which has become a hallmark of the distillery's expertise in blending and cask finishing.
Spirit Description
This whiskey displays a deep ruby-amber colour, reflecting its time spent in fortified wine casks. The nose is rich and festive, opening with aromas of brandied cherries, fig jam, and pecan cinnamon rolls, followed by allspice berries and a hint of French oak shavings. On the palate, the body is velvety and complex, delivering flavours of poached white peaches, stewed rhubarb, and Italian tiramisu, balanced by candied ginger and weathered cinnamon bark. The experience concludes with a long, silky finish that features lingering notes of sticky toffee pudding and spiced plum tea. It is bottled at 49.3% ABV and is composed of a blend of two rye mash bills finished in a combination of ruby and tawny Port barrels.
