Frequently Asked Questions
What can I brew in this pitcher?
You can brew cold brew tea (any variety), cold brew coffee, infused water with fruits and herbs, homemade lemonade, iced herbal tonics, and any chilled beverage. The built-in strainer makes it perfect for keeping tea leaves, coffee grounds, or fruit pieces contained while allowing liquid to flow freely.
How much tea should I use?
For cold brew tea, use approximately 10-15g (2-3 tablespoons) of loose leaf tea for the full 800ml capacity. Adjust to taste—more tea for stronger brew, less for lighter flavor. Green and white teas need less; black teas can use more.
How long should I steep cold brew tea?
- Green & White Tea: 3-4 hours
- Oolong Tea: 4-6 hours
- Black Tea: 6-8 hours
- Herbal Tea: 4-8 hours
Longer steeping creates stronger flavor. Taste periodically to find your preferred strength.
Can I use this pitcher for hot beverages?
While the borosilicate glass is heat-resistant, this pitcher is designed primarily for cold brewing and cold beverages. You can add hot water for herbal tea brewing and then chill, but it's not recommended as a hot serving pitcher. For hot tea, see our other Hario products.
Is the pitcher dishwasher safe?
Yes! The entire pitcher is dishwasher safe. We recommend placing it on the top rack for best results. Hand washing is also quick and easy due to the wide opening.
Will the colored glass affect the taste?
No. The color is in the glass itself and does not affect taste. Hario's borosilicate glass is non-porous and won't absorb flavors, odors, or stains. The amber and gray colors are purely aesthetic.
What's the difference between amber and gray?
The only difference is the color. Both are made from the same high-quality borosilicate glass with identical functionality. Choose based on your personal style preference and kitchen aesthetic.
Does this pitcher fit in a refrigerator door?
Yes! At 9 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, this slim pitcher is designed to fit easily in most standard refrigerator doors. Check your refrigerator door shelf height to confirm.
Can I put this in the microwave?
No. While the glass is heat-resistant, this pitcher is not safe for microwave use. The polypropylene lid and strainer should not go in the microwave.
How do I prevent stains and odors?
Wash immediately after use with warm soapy water. For stubborn odors, fill with a mixture of baking soda and warm water and let sit for 30 minutes before washing. For tea stains, use a soft brush or cloth—avoid abrasive cleaners.
What's included in the box?
The pitcher includes the borosilicate glass body, polypropylene strainer lid with silicone seal, and instructions for use and care.
