Hanson of Sonoma Cucumber Organic Vodka is made by a family-run distillery in Sonoma County, California. The base is Hanson Organic Original Vodka, distilled from California organic grapes. Most of those grapes are French Colombard. The spirit runs through hybrid copper pot and column stills seven times. The whole Hanson family works there: father Scott, brothers Chris and Brandon, and siblings Darren and Alanna.
For this cucumber version, real organic cucumbers are macerated in that grape vodka. No artificial flavors go in. Sonoma spring water then brings it down to 80 proof, or 40% ABV.
Pour a little and you will find fresh cucumber with hints of hibiscus and cilantro on the nose. The palate is crisp, clean and cool, a lot like biting into a fresh slice. A light, minty finish rounds it off.
Hanson describes it as gluten-free and non-GMO, with no carbs and no sugar. A 1.5-ounce pour has about 96 calories. It also earned 91 points at the San Diego International Wine & Spirits Competition.
This vodka is a natural fit for a Cucumber Gimlet, a Mojito or a crisp Martini. You can also try it in a Moscow Mule or a light spritz. Over ice with a squeeze of lime, it makes an easy summer drink. Serve it next to fresh salads, seafood or light appetizers.
