Introduction
This red wine originates from Italy, specifically the Sicily region within the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, the only appellation in Sicily to hold the highest DOCG status. Gulfi is one of the most representative wineries of the island, based in Chiaramonte Gulfi on the Iblei Mountains. The estate's philosophy is centred on 'naturalness', utilizing organic farming and traditional alberello (head-trained) vine systems to craft wines that express the unique light and landscape of southeastern Sicily.
Wine Description
The Gulfi Cerasuolo di Vittoria 2023 displays an intense ruby red colour with youthful violet highlights. The nose is vivid and aromatic, offering a charming bouquet of fresh red berries, marasca cherries, and raspberries, interwoven with delicate floral notes of rose and violet. On the palate, the wine is elegant and harmonious, featuring a medium body with a silky texture and vibrant acidity that provides a refreshing lift. It concludes with a long, clean finish marked by persistent fruit and a subtle mineral edge. This wine is a blend of 50% Nero d'Avola, which provides structure and depth, and 50% Frappato, which contributes perfume and freshness. It is certified organic and has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 13.5%.

Food Pairing
This versatile Sicilian red pairs exceptionally well with a variety of Mediterranean flavours. It is an excellent match for white meats like roast chicken or pork, as well as rich fish dishes such as seared tuna or swordfish. It also complements pasta with ragu, mushroom risotto, or a platter of traditional Italian charcuterie and medium-aged cheeses.
Vintage Quality
The 2023 vintage in southeastern Sicily was characterized by a balanced growing season, despite some summer heat typical of the region. The harvest period allowed for the Nero d'Avola and Frappato grapes to reach optimal ripeness while maintaining the characteristic freshness and bright aromatic profile that define high quality Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
