92 points Vinous
The 2024 Tinto blends 85% Mencía with 15% other local grapes, 70% from the Sil River and 30% from tributaries, offering a full Ribeira Sacra expression. Its aromas include cherry, pomegranate, rose and a hint of subtle oak. Juicy and fresh in both aroma and palate, this has medium acidity and finishes with a light note of black tea. The Guémaro family has been making wine for generations in Amandi, mostly from estate vineyards. Today, the winery is led by Pedro Guémaro, whose vision and quick thinking have helped shape Ribeira Sacra’s reputation for quality. The single-vineyard wines are particularly impressive. Guémaro is one of Ribeira Sacra’s benchmark producers.
Mostly Mencía with small amounts (<15%) of other traditional local varieties like Brancellao, Caiño, Marenzao, etc. From a mix of older vineyards around Amandi that are planted on slate soils. The grapes were harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tank with native yeasts. The wine rests in the same vessel for 8 months on the lees, then is bottled. No fining, light mechanical filtration, and small sulfur addition at bottling. A vibrant, lush red that displays the full charm of Mencia.
92+ points Wine Advocate
The young 2024 Mencía has 15% other varieties, 80% from the Sil River and 20% from the Miño River, and a pale color and perfumed nose, finer and more elegant than previous years. It has contained ripeness and 12.5% alcohol and a light- to medium-bodied palate with almost unnoticeable tannins. 100,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2025.
