Originating from Portugal in the famous Douro region, specifically within the rugged Cima Corgo subregion, Graham's Vintage Port 'The Private Cellar Release' 1985 represents an iconic, fully mature expression from a classic vintage declaration. Founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham, the house is owned and operated by Symington Family Estates. The winery's philosophy focuses on sourcing fruit from flagship properties including Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta das Lages, and Quinta do Tua, utilizing traditional stone lagar foot treading to craft rich, voluptuous Vintage Ports that are held in the Symington family's private lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia for late 'Private Cellar' releases to guarantee perfect provenance.
Wine Description
The wine presents a deep garnet red colour with warm mahogany and amber reflections along the rim. A rich, mature, and extraordinarily complex bouquet opens with secondary and tertiary aromas of dried fig, prune, and raisins, interwoven with sophisticated notes of dark chocolate, eucalyptus, roasted coffee, pipe tobacco, leather, and exotic baking spices. On the palate, it is full bodied, lush, and velvety smooth, delivering a mouth-coating texture packed with mature dark fruit, cocoa bean, and molasses, all supported by a fine streak of balanced natural acidity. Framed by resolved, silky tannins and a soft schist mineral backbone, it concludes with an extraordinarily long, warm, and harmonious finish. Composed of a classic Douro blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Roriz, this release offers an optimal drinking window of 2024–2040. Stylistically, it combines Graham's signature opulent sweetness and dark fruit concentration with fully evolved tertiary complexity and seamless balance.
Food Pairing
Suggested pairings include stilton cheese, blue cheese with dark wildflower honey, dark chocolate ganache, or roasted figs with walnuts. 'Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.'
