Glenmorangie Companta Private Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a limited-edition Highland expression introduced in 2014 as the fifth release in Glenmorangie's acclaimed Private Edition collection. Meaning "friendship" in Scots Gaelic, Companta celebrates the distillery's relationship with French winemakers and their exceptional wines. Created under the direction of Dr. Bill Lumsden, the whisky begins its maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before selected parcels undergo additional maturation in prestigious Grand Cru wine casks from Burgundy's Clos de Tart vineyard and sweet fortified wine casks from the Côtes du Rhône. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, this distinctive single malt delivers a harmonious balance of rich red fruits, elegant wine-influenced tannins, warming spice and smooth chocolate sweetness.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with dark chocolate truffles, cherry tart, roasted duck, aged Gouda, caramelized walnuts and plum desserts. Its rich red-fruit character also complements mushroom risotto, berry-based pastries and creamy blue cheese.
Tasting Notes: A complex, wine-influenced Highland single malt showcasing ripe cherries, stewed plums, red berries and blood orange layered with milk chocolate, brown sugar and aromatic oak. Delicate woodsmoke and warming spices provide depth, while the French wine casks contribute a rich, rounded texture.
Nose: Rich autumnal aromas of red berries, ripe cherries and damp woodland mingle with fragrant woodsmoke and aromatic, nutty oak. Subtle notes of chocolate, sweet spice and dried fruits add complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and richly textured, revealing juicy cherries, stewed fruits, sugared plums and blood orange. Layers of rosehip syrup, milk chocolate and brown sugar unfold alongside gentle oak tannins and warming spice.
Finish: Long, rich and mouth-coating, with lingering red berries, dark chocolate, sweet oak and delicate spice. A touch of wine-derived tannin provides an elegant, gently drying conclusion.
