Glenfiddich 12 Year Old is the world's most awarded single malt Scotch whisky — and the expression that, more than any other, introduced the concept of single malt Scotch to the world. When William Grant & Sons launched Glenfiddich as a single malt in 1963, it was a revolutionary act: at a time when blended Scotch dominated the market and single malts were virtually unknown outside Scotland, Glenfiddich dared to bottle and market its spirit on its own merits. The gamble paid off magnificently, and today Glenfiddich 12 remains the benchmark by which all entry-level single malts are measured.
Founded on Christmas Day 1887 by William Grant and his family in the Glenfiddich glen of Speyside — the name means "Valley of the Deer" in Gaelic, reflected in the iconic stag on every bottle — the distillery remains family-owned to this day, a remarkable achievement for a brand of this global scale. The 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak and ex-oloroso sherry casks, then married together in large oak vats to achieve the signature fresh, fruity, and approachable Glenfiddich house style.
The nose is fresh, light, and immediately inviting — fresh pear, green apple, and a gentle floral sweetness, with soft notes of vanilla, cream, and a subtle hint of oak. On the palate, it's light-bodied and beautifully smooth: crisp fruit, soft malt, a touch of honey, and a gentle warming spice build with a freshness and elegance that makes it one of the most universally approachable single malts in the world.
