Introduction
Giffard Elderflower Syrup is a non alcoholic product produced in Angers, France. It is crafted by a fifth generation family business established in 1885, which utilizes traditional maceration techniques and 100% pure French sugar beet.
Spirit Description
This syrup presents a warm amber or light sunny yellow appearance. The aroma is very fragrant, featuring powerful floral scents of elderflower alongside exotic notes of lychee and lemon. On the palate, it offers a subtle and refreshing flavour that balances bright elderflower with a delicate acidity and a gentle citrus twist. The body is smooth and light, leading to a clean finish that evokes the feel of a summer garden. This product contains 0% alcohol by volume.
Food Pairing
The floral and slightly acidic profile of this syrup makes it an excellent addition to a variety of culinary creations. It can be drizzled over cakes or stirred into ice creams and fruit purees to add a sophisticated floral lift. For a more unique pairing, it complements savoury dishes such as Atlantic salmon or salads featuring cucumber and buffalo mozzarella. It also harmonizes well with light snacks like nuts or fruit based desserts like raspberry tarts.
Distinctive Features
Giffard Elderflower Syrup is distinguished by its use of natural aroma from hand picked elderflowers and concentrated lemon juice. It is crafted without the use of artificial preservatives and is certified vegan, gluten free, and non GMO. The production process relies on the family's extensive expertise in capturing the pure essence of botanicals to ensure high aromatic intensity.
Serving Suggestions
This syrup is highly versatile and can be enjoyed simply by diluting it with still or sparkling water to create a refreshing elderflower pressé. In mixology, it is a key ingredient for non alcoholic cocktails such as a 'Virgin Hugo' or an 'Elderflower Spritz' garnished with a slice of lemon and fresh mint. It also serves as a refined sweetener for hot or iced drinks, including lattes, green tea, and espresso mocktails.
