G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Brut is an elegant, sophisticated, and deeply complex Old World champagne that serves as the historic, internationally recognized signature of the house. It pours a brilliant golden yellow colour with jade highlights and an energetic, streaming stream of fine bubbles, lifting with an immediate, refreshing bouquet of fresh yellow peaches, crunchy green apples, and zesty citrus fruits, seamlessly layered with complex undertones of rich buttery brioche, wild honey, praline, and warm vanilla bean. On the palate, this medium-bodied sparkling wine is remarkably smooth, crisp, and fresh, coating the mouth with pure, velvety intensities of ripe orchard fruits, fresh grapes, and a lovely structural crunch that highlights the dominance of Pinot Noir. Driven by a finely balanced, food-friendly acidity and a super-sleek texture, its rich tension carries into a long, persistent, and beautifully measured finish accented by a lingering touch of chalky minerality, caramel, and baked bread.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with a wide range of fresh or refined culinary choices, including freshly shucked oysters, pan-seared sea scallops, smoked salmon blinis, roasted poultry or turkey breast, creamy wild mushroom risottos, and cured meats or salty appetizers.
91 Points - James Suckling
Quite a complex nose of candied citrus, crisp and dried pear with a touch of bread dough. Then an appealing balance of fruit, fresh acidity and lively mousse on the medium-bodied palate. Long, animating, lemony finish.
91 Points - Wine Spectator
A fresh and balanced Champagne in the aperitif style, with the creamy mousse carrying flavors of ripe yellow apple, toast point and candied lemon peel. A hint of smoky mineral shows on the finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now.
