Made in Oaxaca, Mexico by a fourth-generation master distiller, Gem & Bolt Mezcal Artesanal is built on espadín agave and fresh mountain spring water. The espadín plants, pollinated at night by bats, need as long as ten years in the sun before harvest. They are cut by hand, roasted slowly over wood in earth-pit ovens, then crushed with a traditional tahona stone. The roasted mash ferments naturally in wooden vats and is distilled in small copper stills, following methods carried forward over hundreds of years.
What sets this 44% ABV mezcal apart is the co-distillation with damiana, a flowering bush native to Mexico that the Maya and Aztec valued for its mood-lifting qualities and its reputation in the bedroom. The agave is fair-trade, organic and sustainably grown, and the spirit contains no additives of any kind. In the glass, expect smoke and earth alongside roasted agave and citrus zest, closing with a touch of minerality and pepper. Available in a 200 ml bottle.
