This distinguished red wine originates from the Plan de Dieu commune in the Côtes du Rhône Villages subregion of the Rhône Valley, France. Founded in 1936 in Gigondas by Gabriel Meffre and his wife, the winery has grown from a visionary family business into a leading producer in the southern Rhône. The winery's philosophy is rooted in its role as a 'Négociant-Éleveur' and producer, focusing on creating wines that inspire sharing and offer an exceptional reference for the region's terroir. The Plan de Dieu subregion was officially recognized in 2005, and the Meffre estate has pursued sustainable projects, including organic conversion for select domains since 2017.
Wine Description
The Gabriel Meffre 'Saint Mapalis' Plan de Dieu presents a healthy, vivid purple or deep ruby colour. The sensory profile is rich and fruit-forward, featuring aromas of plum, cassis, and blackberries, layered with notes of licorice, cocoa, and peppery garrigue spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and harmonious, showcasing an expansive mouthfeel with soft, plush tannins and a balanced acidity. It is characterized by its smooth texture and a fresh finish that sometimes reveals mineral or anise-scented notes. This classic Rhône blend typically consists of Grenache (60–65%), Syrah (30%), and Mourvèdre (5%)
