Batch 012 crashes onto the palate with immense, high-proof intensity. The blending team meticulously anchored this release with a 16-year-old corn whisky re-racked into heavy-toast, air-seasoned American oak, building a staggeringly complex 11-component symphony around it. It's rare to witness such deliberate craftsmanship. Blending mature grain stocks ranging from 16 to 22 years old unlocks a deeply resonant profile that completely shatters typical category expectations.
Age matters, but clever wood management dictates the final trajectory here. Casks sourced from three distinct cooperages infuse the liquid with a profound roasted marshmallow sweetness and layers of singed brown sugar. The texture feels remarkably velvety. As the 128.2 proof spirit breathes in the glass, those dense wood sugars integrate seamlessly with a savory, almost saline minerality to create a thoroughly engrossing sip.
This release completely demands your undivided attention. Pouring a dram reveals an undulating tapestry of dark chocolate, rich molasses, and baking spice that persistently evolves over time in the glass. The balance leans deliciously savory. You'll find a distinct, roasted espresso bitterness creeping in at the finish to elegantly counterbalance the sheer density of the prevailing sweetness.
