Big Steep Stout is a classic core offering from Fernie Brewing Co., located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Fernie, British Columbia. This beer is inspired by the legendary "Big Steep" ski runs of the local mountains, bold, intense, and rewarding. It is a traditional American style stout that prioritizes deep, roasted flavors and a sturdy body, making it the perfect companion for a cold winter night or a post ski gathering by the fire.
Beer Description
This stout pours a deep, opaque ink-black with a thick, creamy tan head and heavy lacing.
Aroma: It features a rich and inviting nose dominated by dark roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate. Subtle hints of dried dark fruits and a faint smokiness add to its complexity.
Palate: The flavor profile is full-bodied and velvety. It delivers robust notes of espresso and dark cocoa, supported by a rich, bready malt sweetness. It finishes with a firm roasted bitterness and a slight earthy hop character that prevents the sweetness from lingering too long.
Profile: It has an ABV of 5.0% and a moderate bitterness of 30 IBU, offering a satisfying "big" flavor profile without the high alcohol content of an Imperial stout.
Technical Notes: Brewed with a complex grain bill featuring chocolate malt, black malt, and roasted barley. This combination provides both the dark color and the layered toasted flavors, while the use of flaked oats contributes to its signature smooth and silky mouthfeel.
