El Mago Cigars was founded in 2022 by Nick Fusco as a tribute to his grandparents, Maria and Gonzalo Torre, who perished in the collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida. The name El Mago, Spanish for “the magician,” honors their memory, and every release carries the weight of that dedication. The cigars are produced at the MGE Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, one of the most respected rolling operations in the country.
The James Avenue line was inspired by the James Hotel in Miami Beach, a property that Nick Fusco’s grandfather purchased in 1989 and that remains a family landmark to this day. Each of the four blends reflects a distinct character, and the Habano is the most complex and dynamic of the quartet.
The James Avenue Habano pairs a Habano wrapper from an undisclosed origin with a Criollo binder and Nicaraguan fillers in a 6 x 54 box pressed Toro. Expect notes of dark cedar, leather, espresso, black pepper, and rich earthiness that build beautifully from the first third through the long, satisfying finish. A cigar for the enthusiast who wants depth and character in equal measure.
Regular production. A cigar built to honor a legacy.
