This Straight Rye Whiskey is not a bourbon, but it’s part of the famous E.H. Taylor, Jr. collection, which also includes several bourbons. It’s crafted at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, where Colonel Taylor’s legacy of craftsmanship lives on. As a Bottled-in-Bond whiskey, it is made under the rules laid down by the 1897 act, a guarantee of its quality and consistency. Bottled at exactly 100 proof (50% ABV), it ticks every box the bond rules require and spends a minimum of four years in the barrel, even though no age statement appears on the label.
Made only from rye and malted barley, with no corn, it stands apart from most Kentucky rye whiskeys. The flavor strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and spice, sitting right between a bourbon and a traditional rye. The aroma opens with dried fruit, black pepper, and toasted oak, while the taste delivers layers of dark spices, light caramel, and bold rye character. It finishes dry and oaky, leaving a warm, lingering spice.
Named after Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr., a pioneer of modern bourbon laws, this whiskey comes in a vintage-style 750mL bottle and is prized by collectors for its limited availability and timeless design.
