Founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has been a pioneer in establishing Merlot as a premium varietal in Napa Valley. The winery emphasizes quality and consistency, sourcing grapes from its estate vineyards and top sites throughout the region.
Wine Description
This Merlot presents a deep ruby hue and opens with enticing aromas of black cherry, spiced plum, and subtle notes of cedar and tobacco leaf. On the palate, it offers a velvety texture with flavors of plum, candied black cherry, red licorice, and sweet baking spices. The wine's lively acidity and fine tannins contribute to a gracefully structured profile, culminating in a lush, lingering finish.
Food Pairing
This Merlot's versatility makes it an excellent companion to a variety of dishes. It pairs well with roasted meats such as lamb, beef, or pork, as well as grilled vegetables and hearty stews. For a vegetarian option, consider mushroom risotto or roasted eggplant. The wine's depth and character are enhanced when accompanied by aged cheeses like Gouda or Brie.
