Legendary rock band Metallica joined forces with master distiller Dave Pickerell to create Blackened whiskey, a uniquely crafted spirit that uses reverberating low-frequency sound waves to generate greater flavor. Blackened moves into a new era with another distilling master, Rob Dietrich, taking the helm. He and Metallica frontman James Hetfield took their love of cigars to wildly popular cigarmaker Drew Estate, and the gloriously rich and satisfying Blackened M81 cigar series was born.
The Blackened M81 Corona Doble delivers an intensely flavorful Maduro-centric smoke built around a lively filler blend that pairs voluptuous Pennsylvanian Broadleaf tobacco dubbed “Green River One Sucker” with hearty Nicaraguan-grown leaves. The blend is topped off with a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a velvety dark Mexican San Andres wrapper leaf.
As the tantalizing 7” x 50 Blackened M81 Corona Doble kicks into gear, your palate is doused in rolling waves of chocolate and espresso bean flavors. Pepper notes add a pleasing spicy edge to the full-flavored experience. Sweet cinnamon and nutmeg notes strike just the right chord, as earth and wood nuances provide a consistent rhythm from start to smooth yet vigorous finish.
When you combine the skill of masters at the forefront of their crafts with Hetfield’s passion for cigar and whiskey pairing, you know you will have something special. The Blackened M81 Corona Doble delivers in spades with a boldly engaging adventure.
