The Don Pepin Garcia Vegas Cubanas Invictos takes you back to an earlier chapter in José “Pepín” García's remarkable American cigar story. Vegas Cubanas predates My Father Cigars, originating during the period when Pepín was building his reputation at the small El Rey de los Habanos factory in Little Havana, Miami. Today the cigar is handcrafted at the García family's My Father factory in Estelí, but its personality remains rooted in the style that first brought Pepín to the attention of serious cigar smokers: Cuban-inspired proportions, assertive Nicaraguan tobacco and a blend that values character over polish.
The 5" x 50 Invictos is a classic Robusto built entirely around Nicaraguan tobacco. A reddish Corojo Rosado wrapper surrounds Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers grown and harvested on García family farms. In this compact format, the tobacco speaks quickly. Cedar, earth and Pepín's familiar peppery spice establish the foundation, while roasted coffee, nuts and a subtle underlying sweetness emerge as the cigar settles. There's strength here, but the real appeal is the immediacy—the 50-ring format keeps the wrapper prominent and gives the cigar a particularly direct expression of its Nicaraguan character.
