This structured and incredibly pure red wine originates from France, within the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC of the Southern Rhône valley. The estate is based in Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne (affectionately dubbed 'the other Châteauneuf') and is guided by Sébastien Clément, a talented young winemaker with a fast-growing global reputation. Sébastien infuses a modern lightness of touch into his ancestral estate, managing the vineyards with a deep respect for natural rhythms. Sourced from old vines rooted in traditional clay-limestone soils strewn with galets roulés (rounded river stones), the rare "La Borne" bottling represents a highly focused expression designed to mirror the structural depth and mineral freshness of the region.
Wine Description
The 2023 Domaine des Garriguettes Châteauneuf-du-Pape "La Borne" presents a beautiful crimson colour. The nose opens with an explosive bouquet of juicy black cherries and wild blackberries, layered with hints of wild strawberries, thyme, and smooth chocolate. On the palate, the wine is supple and beautifully balanced, showcasing a core of stone-flecked fruit held together by fine, velvety tannins. It is characterized by an outstanding, mineral-driven freshness that carries into a remarkably long finish of warm stones and savory spices. This organic and biodynamic blend consists of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre. Sourced from old vines, the fruit underwent 95% whole-bunch fermentation to preserve structural lift before aging for 18 months in large, neutral 600-litre oak barrels. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with an alcohol content (ABV) of 14.5%.
