Crafted in Kosjerić, Serbia, by Destilerija Zarić (one of the Balkan region's most celebrated modern craft distilleries), Travarica is a refined herbal spirit (Travarica) rooted in traditional Balkan apothecary traditions. Starting with a pure, high-quality fruit distillate base (typically distilled plum or grape), the distillery macerates a proprietary blend of hand-harvested mountain herbs and botanicals. Key herbs include wormwood, mint, St. John's wort, sage, chamomile, and gentian. The mixture is then rested in wooden casks to allow the complex botanicals to integrate seamlessly with the base spirit. The result is a vibrant, golden-green herbal brandy that strikes a harmonious balance between aromatic botanical bitterness, refreshing mint, and gentle fruit sweetness.
Food Pairing: Traditional Balkan mezze platters (cured meats, roasted peppers, salty white cheeses), smoked fish, grilled lamb, or enjoyed as a digestif following rich, hearty meals.
Tasting Notes: Clear, pale golden-olive to light green in appearance with bright clarity, a light-to-medium body, and clean, nimble legs.
Nose: Fresh, aromatic, and deeply botanical, opening with wild mint, sage, and dried chamomile, followed by sweet mountain hay, wormwood, and subtle orchard fruit.
Palate: Crisp, herb-forward, and well-balanced on the palate, featuring crisp mint, herbal tea, and sweet fruit nectar upfront before unfolding into pleasantly earthy wormwood, gentian root bitterness, sage, and soft wood spice.
Finish: Long, clean, and invigorating with lingering notes of herbal bitterness, cool peppermint, and subtle warmth.
Serve: Most traditionally enjoyed well-chilled or over ice in a classic small shot glass as a digestive aperitif or digestif, or as a unique botanical base for modern craft cocktails.
