This sparkling white wine originates from France, specifically the Saumur appellation in the Loire Valley. Diamant de Loire is a range produced by Les Caves de la Loire, a prominent cooperative founded in 1951. The winery focuses on expressing the unique limestone and chalk "tuffeau" soils of the region, which are famous for providing the ideal conditions for traditional method sparkling wines. The name "Diamant de Loire" is a tribute to the precision and clarity sought in their winemaking process.
Wine Description
The Diamant de Loire Saumur Brut is a fresh and lively sparkling wine crafted using the traditional method (méthode traditionnelle), involving a second fermentation in the bottle.
-
Appearance: A brilliant straw-yellow color with golden hues and a fine, persistent bead.
-
Nose: The bouquet is predominantly floral and fruity, typical of Chenin Blanc. It reveals aromas of ripe green apple, pear, and honeydew melon, accented by delicate notes of white flowers, hawthorn, and a subtle hint of toasted bread or brioche.
-
Palate: On the palate, the wine is crisp and well-balanced. It features a rounded attack followed by a decisive acidity that brings freshness and energy. The texture is refined, leading to a clean, mineral finish with lingering notes of citrus and dried fruits.
-
Technical Details: This wine is made from 100% Chenin Blanc. It undergoes aging on its lees for at least 9 months to develop its characteristic creaminess and depth. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is typically 12%.
Food Pairing
The high acidity and fine bubbles of this Saumur Brut make it an excellent aperitif. It pairs beautifully with salty snacks, fresh oysters, or seafood salads. It also complements light poultry dishes, vegetable tempura, and soft cheeses like Brie or local Crottin de Chavignol. For a dessert pairing, try it with an apple tart or fresh fruit salad to highlight its orchard fruit notes.
