Dark Arts Toasted Mizunara Bourbon is the fourth core expression from Dark Arts Whiskey House, bottled at 50% ABV in a 750 ml format. It is built on a mashbill of 64% corn, 24% rye, and 12% malted barley, then finished with rare toasted Mizunara oak, a temperamental Japanese wood known for its complexity and its demands on the blender.
That finish shows itself in notes of sandalwood, exotic spices, and an incense-like depth running through the whiskey. The texture is rich and creamy, carrying layers of snickerdoodle cookies, gingerbread spice, and zesty lemon.
Brown butter yeast rolls sit alongside hints of cardamom and nutmeg, with vanilla cream and toasted oak filling out the background for a dynamic, satisfying pour.
