Cutwater Old Grove is a crisp, West-Coast-soul gin that marries classic juniper-forward refinement with bright citrus and soft floral-herbal layering — easy to sip neat or build into cocktails, yet with enough botanical character to stand out among typical American gins.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Old Grove Gin is crafted by Cutwater Spirits, a California-based distillery known for small-batch, thoughtfully produced spirits. Distilled in batches in the U.S., Old Grove embraces a “London Dry–style” gin heritage but with a regional twist: it’s vapor distilled using eleven botanicals including traditional juniper berries, rose petals, lemongrass, coriander, and other aromatics chosen for bright, fresh character rather than heavy, old-world complexity. The result is a clean, gluten-free gin, bottled at 44% ABV (88 proof), that channels a coastal California spirit — fresh, approachable, and versatile for cocktails or simple pours.
Critics Reviews
Among gin-friendly reviewers and spirits-competition judges, Old Grove garners frequent praise for its balance and mixability. Winners of multiple awards over the years, it’s been lauded in tastings for delivering “earthy, bold juniper with subtle floral and citrus overtones,” making it a reliable choice for both classic and modern cocktails. Reviewers often highlight its accessibility and smooth, clean profile as strengths — calling it a “solid American small-batch gin that respects tradition while embracing freshness.”
Tasting Profile
Nose:
A bright juniper-forward entry opens the aroma, underscored by fresh citrus zest and soft floral rose petals, with hints of lemongrass and coriander seed bringing an herbal lift.
Palate:
Medium light and clean — juniper remains central, threaded with crisp citrus notes (lemon and maybe a hint of lime), gentle floral softness, light herbal spice, and a subtle earthiness. The botanicals remain balanced so that no single note dominates.
Finish:
Dry, smooth, and refreshing. The botanicals fade gently leaving a lingering pine-juniper bitterness, soft herbal spice, and a faint citrus echo. It finishes clean, with a refined and easy-going dryness ideal for cocktails.
