Collectivum XXVIII Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is an extraordinary limited-edition expression from Diageo's prestigious 2017 Special Releases collection. Bringing together single malt whiskies from all 28 operational Diageo-owned malt distilleries in Scotland at the time, this remarkable no-age-statement blend celebrates the diversity of Scotch whisky. The components were matured in a combination of refill American oak hogsheads, refill European oak butts, ex-bodega European oak and first-fill bourbon barrels. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.3% ABV, Collectivum XXVIII delivers an exceptionally layered experience, combining orchard fruits, warming spices, chocolate, citrus and rich malt sweetness.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with aged cheddar, roasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate, caramelized apples and spiced pear tart. Its complex combination of fruit, spice and oak also complements roasted duck, grilled meats and buttery pastries.
Tasting Notes: A richly textured and harmonious blended malt balancing sweet orchard fruits, toasted nuts, warming spice, citrus and dark chocolate. Subtle herbal freshness, creamy toffee and delicate oak tannins contribute to its remarkable complexity.
Nose: Inviting aromas of sweet orchard fruits, autumn leaves and gentle baking spices develop into fresh herbal notes, mint toffee and delicate buttery pastry. Hints of citrus and soft malt sweetness add depth.
Palate: Rich and rounded, revealing toasted nuts, warming spices and sweet barley sugar. Layers of almonds, citrus zest, creamy toffee and dark chocolate unfold alongside a delicate balance of sweetness, acidity and refined oak dryness.
Finish: Medium-length and pleasantly warming, with buttery pastry, lingering spice, crisp apple skin and fresh pear. Subtle fruit sweetness and delicate oak create an elegant, refreshing conclusion.
