Código 1530 Mezcal Artesanal is made by traditional methods: agave crushed under a donkey-pulled tahona wheel, wild fermentation with begasso, and distillation in copper stills. The agave is roasted in earthen pits, the step that gives this mezcal its smoky depth.
The blend is an ensamble of Espadín and Tobalá agave, harvested across different terroirs in Oaxaca so the spirit carries flavors from a range of elevations and regions. It is then rested in Sauvignon Blanc wine barrels, chosen for their herbaceous aroma.
Tasting notes: smoky and earthy, with roasted agave, citrus zest, and a hint of minerality and pepper on the finish. Bottled at 42.2% ABV (84.4 proof) in a 750 ml bottle.
