Originating from Portugal in the famous Douro region, specifically within the rugged Cima Corgo and Douro Superior subregions, Cockburn's Vintage Port 2024 represents a historic classic declaration for the renowned Port house. Founded in 1815 by Scottish brothers Robert and John Cockburn, the house is now owned and operated by Symington Family Estates. The winemaking philosophy centers on sourcing fruit primarily from the flagship Quinta dos Canais estate alongside Quinta do Vale Coelho, utilizing an unusually high proportion of Touriga Nacional to craft structured, dry-finishing Vintage Ports built for extraordinary long-term bottle aging.
Wine Description
The wine presents a deep, opaque purple garnet colour with brilliant crimson rims in the glass. An exuberant and complex bouquet opens with vibrant aromas of dark Marasca cherry, wild strawberry, and cassis, interwoven with fragrant accents of violets, orange blossom, rockrose, tobacco leaf, and subtle black tea spice. On the palate, it is full bodied, dense, and powerfully structured, delivering concentrated flavours of ripe red and dark fruits, peppery spice, and cocoa supported by a vibrant core of natural acidity and a noticeably drier, more vinous profile. Framed by fine-grained, muscular tannins and an undercurrent of schist-and-flint minerality, it concludes with Cockburn's signature firm grip and a long, savory finish.
