This 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Clos Du Val, one of the classic names in Napa Valley. The winery has long aimed for balance over sheer power. You can taste that choice here. It is generous and ripe, but it never feels heavy.
Swirl the glass and black cherry rises first. Blackcurrant and plum follow, with a soft hint of violet. The palate is juicy and full of black fruit. Savory spice runs through the middle and keeps each sip lively. The tannins are fine-grained and silky. The finish is long and a little savory, which pulls you back for more.
Critics were impressed with this vintage. Wine Enthusiast scored it 92 points and named it to the Enthusiast 100 Best Wines of 2024. James Suckling also gave it 92 points. The Wine Independent rated it 94, and Wine Advocate gave it 90.
It drinks well right now, yet it should keep for several years. Give it 30 minutes in a decanter so the fruit opens up. Serve it a touch below room temperature. Grilled steak, lamb chops and aged cheese are all great matches. Roasted mushrooms work nicely if you want a meat-free plate.
Reach for this bottle when you want a polished Napa red that does not cost a fortune. It suits a steak night at home and makes a smart gift for a wine-loving friend.
