This structured and mineral-driven white wine originates from Argentina, specifically within the Mendoza region and the Luján de Cuyo subregion. Bodega Catena Zapata, family vintners for over 100 years, is renowned for its pioneering role in high-altitude viticulture and for establishing the world-class reputation of Argentine wine. The winemaking philosophy for the White Clay label is to modernise an old Mendoza classic the Semillon and Chenin Blanc blend by highlighting the unique 'tensile' character derived from vineyards planted in 1983 on alluvial soils with rich clay topsoil.
Wine Description
Catena Appellation Luján de Cuyo White Clay presents a bright pale straw colour with subtle green and silvery highlights. The sensory profile features an herbal, tropical, and creamy nose with notes of honey, chamomile, yellow apple, and apricot, accented by hints of candied citrus and sea salt. On the palate, the wine is oily and concentrated at the attack, showcasing flavors of pear and candied orange peel before transitioning to a vibrant spine of crushed rock and salinity. It is a medium-bodied wine with impressive density and extract, defined by a fresh, succulent, and 'gently tensile' structure. This blend consists of 60% Semillon and 40% Chenin Blanc and reached an ABV of approximately 12.9%. While the estate utilizes sustainable farming and vegan-friendly practices, this bottling is not certified organic.
