This vibrant red wine hails from the Verduno village in the Languedoc-Roero hills of Piedmont, Italy. Castello di Verduno is a historic estate housed in a 16th-century castle, managed by the Burlotto and Blanco families. The winery's philosophy is rooted in traditionalism and "gentle" winemaking; they are famous for producing some of the most elegant, floral expressions of Piedmontese varieties. This Barbera is sourced from vineyards with white limestone and clay soils, which contribute to its signature brightness and mineral tension.
Wine Description
The Castello di Verduno Barbera d'Alba presents a deep ruby-purple colour with violet reflections. The nose is high-toned and exceptionally pure, offering a bouquet of ripe red cherries, blackberries, and damp earth, accented by sophisticated notes of dried rose petals and a hint of black pepper. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and "electric," showcasing the varietal’s hallmark racy acidity and a crunchy red-fruit core. It is characterized by its lack of heavy oak having been fermented and aged in large neutral Slavonian oak botti and stainless steel allowing the fruit and terroir to remain center stage.
