Casey Jones Amburana Finished Barrel Cut is a bold and adventurous limited-edition spirit produced in the United States, specifically in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. It is crafted by Casey Jones Distillery, founded by Master Distiller Arlon "AJ" Casey Jones, who uses his grandfather’s iconic square pot still design a relic from the prohibition era designed to fit discreetly in the back of a truck. This expression is a standout in the distillery’s "Bottle Your Own" experience and selective retail releases, representing a fusion of Kentucky moonshining heritage and exotic Brazilian aging techniques.
Description
This spirit is technically a "Barrel Aged American Spirit" rather than a traditional bourbon because it is crafted from a unique 50/50 mash of corn and cane sugar. This hybrid mash bill creates a profile that bridges the gap between high-proof bourbon and a sophisticated sipping rum.
Maturation: The spirit is first aged traditionally in Kelvin Cooperage charred white oak barrels. It is then re-barreled in rare Brazilian Amburana oak casks, a hardwood known for its intense aromatic properties. Some batches are even "Triple Casked," spending a final period mellowing in a high-rye bourbon cask.
Appearance: Dark gold to burnished copper with oily, syrupy legs.
Nose: Incredibly aromatic and sweet. Rich waves of cinnamon, t balaoasted oak, and warm baking spices arenced by notes of crème brûlée and barrel char.
Palate: A decadent, full-bodied experience often described as an "oatmeal raisin cookie" in a glass. It features layers of butterscotch, spiced brown sugar, vanilla bean, and a unique "woodsy" depth.
Finish: Long and velvety, with a distinct shift from bourbon-like caramel to rum-like vanilla on the exit, finished with a touch of ginger-like heat.
Technical Details: Typically bottled as a Barrel Cut (uncut and unfiltered) at approximately 112.8 proof (56.4% ABV).
