Introduction
The Carmen Sauvignon Blanc Gran Reserve 2025 comes from the Casablanca Valley in Chile. Viña Carmen is Chile's first and oldest winery, established in 1850 by Christian Lanz, who named it in honour of his wife. The winemaking philosophy involves interpreting the character of places and a respectful, low-intervention management of the vineyard. The winery is recognized as a benchmark in Chilean winemaking, known for its extensive history and continuous pursuit of excellence.
Wine Description
This is a single varietal wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. It is a lively and fruity white wine. On the palate, it is described as clean, crisp, and smooth with a refreshing and vibrant acidity. Its intense and lingering bouquet offers citrus and stone fruit flavours with notes of thyme, pink grapefruit, and passionfruit. Stylistic notes include a good structure, finesse, and complexity. It has a medium finish of herbs. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is approximately 13.00%. This wine is not specifically indicated as organic in the available information.
Accolades
Accolades for the Gran Reserva range's Sauvignon Blanc vintage 2024 include:
Descorchados - 92 points.
Food Pairing
Suggested food pairings are tailored to the wine's crispness and acidity:
Shellfish and oysters.
Dishes that are herbaceous, such as a salad with a citrus vinaigrette or herb-based dishes like asparagus risotto.
Goat cheese and soft cheeses like Brie or feta.
White fish served with a lemon-butter sauce.
Vintage Quality
The 2025 vintage in regions like Leyda Valley (which shares cool-climate characteristics with Casablanca Valley) was atypical, marked by variable weather. The season saw an increase in winter rainfall, which improved soil moisture. The harvest was generally later than the previous season. For high-end Sauvignon Blancs, the 2025 vintage is noted as exceptional, delivering wines that show fruit purity, pronounced aromatic intensity, and the characteristic vibrant, fresh acidity of the cool-climate coastal valleys.
