Caol Ila 17 Year Old Unpeated is an exceptional limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky released as part of Diageo's prestigious 2015 Special Releases collection. Distilled in 1997 and matured for 17 years in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, this rare expression showcases a fascinating alternative to Caol Ila's traditionally smoky style. Crafted from unpeated malt and bottled at natural cask strength of 55.9% ABV, it delivers an elegant combination of vibrant citrus, creamy malt sweetness, coastal minerality and warming oak spice.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with grilled scallops, buttery lobster, roasted chicken, aged Gouda and creamy Brie. Lemon tart, vanilla crème brûlée and toasted almonds complement its citrus-forward, malty character.
Tasting Notes: A richly textured, unpeated Islay single malt featuring fresh citrus, honeyed barley, orchard fruit and gentle coastal salinity, balanced by mature American oak and delicate spice.
Nose: Fresh lemon zest, green apples, honeyed malt, soft vanilla, floral notes and a touch of coastal minerality.
Palate: Creamy barley sweetness, citrus peel, toffee, orchard fruits and subtle oak spice, with a pleasantly waxy texture and hints of sea salt.
Finish: Long and warming, with lingering malt sweetness, lemon oil, delicate spice, mineral freshness and gentle oak.
