Introduction:
Caol Ila 12 Year Old is widely regarded as the ultimate Islay malt—an ideal entry point for those new to peated whisky and a trusted benchmark for seasoned whisky lovers. This expertly crafted Scotch offers a smooth, lightly smoky profile with a delicate complexity that reflects its coastal origins.
Tasting Notes:
-
Nose: Subdued and citric, with hints of bath oil, almond, and fresh fruit. A touch of water reveals olive, almond oil, and soft floral tones like potpourri and scented soap.
-
Palate: A sweet opening leads to light, fragrant smokiness. The texture is smooth and balanced, with notes of salt, acidity, and subtle sweetness, making for a complex and satisfying sip.
-
Finish: Lingering and refined, with a pleasant touch of sweet smoke and a gently sour edge.
Pairings:
Best enjoyed neat, or with a splash of water or ice to open up the aroma and flavour. Pairs well with smoked salmon, grilled lamb, or aged cheeses.
