Introduction
Caleño Mango and Passion Fruit is a non alcoholic rum alternative that originates from the United Kingdom. The brand was established by Ellie Webb, who drew inspiration from the vibrant colours and tropical flavours of her family's Colombian homeland to create joyful spirits for those not drinking.
Spirit Description
This spirit is characterized by a vibrant tropical profile featuring prominent notes of ripe mango, fresh passion fruit, and guava. On the palate, it offers a smooth fusion of these exotic fruits balanced by a tangy brightness and a hint of fresh lime. The body is rich and fruity, while the finish is refreshingly smooth with lingering hints of warm tropical spice. It is crafted through a steam distillation process and contains 0% alcohol by volume.
Food Pairing
The lush fruit profile of this spirit pairs exceptionally well with snacks that offer a balance of sweet and heat, such as chilli jelly canapés or spicy mango salsa. It is also a natural match for fresh fruit platters featuring watermelon cubes or additional slices of ripe mango. For a more substantial pairing, consider serving it alongside Caribbean or Latin American inspired dishes like jackfruit arepas or coconut rice.
Distinctive Features
This rum alternative is distinguished by its use of a tropical botanical extract blend that includes ingredients like cinnamon, ginger, kola nut, and black cardamom. These botanicals are distilled for 48 hours in modern stainless steel drums and then matured for two weeks to achieve a complex, well rounded flavour profile. The product is certified B Corp and is suitable for various dietary needs as it is vegan, gluten free, and contains zero sugar.
Serving Suggestions
A popular way to enjoy this spirit is in a 'Mango Daiquiri', combined with fresh lime juice and agave syrup in an ice filled shaker. It can also be used to create a 'Mango and Passion Fruit Spritz' by simply mixing 50ml of the spirit with soda water or lemonade over ice. For a simpler serve, it pairs effectively with premium ginger beer or cola, garnished with a fresh wedge of mango or passion fruit seeds.
