The Caldwell Long Live the King Mad MoFo Habano Super Toro hits a particularly good middle ground in Caldwell's bolder Mad MoFo family. A Dominican Habano wrapper surrounds an Indonesian Sumatra binder and an unusually diverse filler combination of Pennsylvania, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. The result is a decidedly fuller and spicier Caldwell, but one that still relies on the character of the tobacco rather than strength alone.
At 6" x 54, the Super Toro gives the blend enough girth to bring the Pennsylvania, Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers forward without pushing the Habano wrapper into the background. Expect a rich core of earth, cedar and roasted coffee accompanied by pepper, leather and darker toasted notes. The Habano keeps a lively spice running through the cigar, while the broader filler mass gives the Super Toro a rounder, more substantial character than the concentrated Corona.
If you're looking for the Mad MoFo Habano size that best showcases the entire blend, start with the Super Toro. It's substantial without becoming oversized, powerful without losing its balance, and gives each component of this unusual multinational recipe a chance to speak. For the seasoned smoker who likes a fuller cigar with both muscle and complexity, the 6 x 54 Super Toro is an easy one to put in the humidor by the handful.
